Clarification of Facebook “Notes”

Just a quick clarification on the Facebook notes…. I believe the one written last night was the first that made it to Facebook “live” (and interestingly about 12 hours after I posted it to my blog). The notes section is simply an aggregator fed from http://www.runsometimes.com/blog/ and it features several problems: It doesn’t seem to post instantly, posts the first version and no subsequent updates (you get the raw misspellings and uncorrected drunken ramblings), and doesn’t display things like tables, resulting in text walls like this: Split Time Distance Avg Pace Best Pace Calories 1 0:04:26 0.5 8:54 7:41 55 2 0:01:56 0.25 7:46 7:29 28 3 0:01:44 0.25 6:55 6:31 27 4 0:01:38 0.25 6:32 6:22 28 5 0:02:27 0.25 9:54 6:28 27 6 0:01:24 0.25 5:37 5:11 27 7 0:03:09 0.25 12:37 5:16 24 8 0:02:00 0.25 8:02 7:19 28 9 0:01:56 0.25 7:46 7:20 28 10 0:01:27 0.25 5:50 4:36 26 11 0:02:33 0.25 10:17 4:55 27 12 0:01:52 0.25 7:22 6:43 28 13 0:01:55 0.25 7:44 7:02 28 14 0:04:43 0.5 9:28 3:26 52 15 0:07:01 0.7 9:59 6:43 77 Summary 0:40:18 4.7 8:34 3:26 510

So if something seems amiss it could possibly be corrected on the website…just sayin’ —  you can get there by hitting “View Original Post” at the bottom.

So much happening…

Not a race done, and not a race in sight… but seems like plenty to talk about.

Oh there has been a race and many more coming soon, just none that I’ve done or will be in. Last Saturday was the first 5k in Leavenworth county this year (that I know of) — the “Slim Down 5k”. That’s a first for that one… guess they decided to rename the Spring Stroll. Last year was cold and wet… and this year guess what… cold and wet. Oh well. Next two 5ks are also on the fort:
April 2nd 8:30am – MOMC 5k (Month of the Military Child)
April 16th? Rocks 5k – This race is run each year, or at least most years. As per usual information about it is sparse and inconsisent. One source had it being run on a Wednesday at 11am. So… who knows. I won’t be there (even if I could be…can’t make it though).

My training is taking off though. And I ought to be officially signing up for a couple of races tomorrow… the deadline for prices increases for Hospital Hill and Psycho Psummer are both in a couple of days. I’m plenty excited for both of them – and got a really cool bit of news about the Hospital Hill run today. Their email mentioned out of the blue – “Get ready for the 2013 Hospital Hill” — and I’m thinking for half a click… uh what about 11 and 12? And of course the next couple of words are … “40th anniversary”. Well that’s cool… of course I’d planned on running it anyway… I have this crazy idea that I will run *every* Hospital Hill from here on out to keep the streak alive. I’m excited for this year in particular because it will be my 5th.

Anyway… this year the 2011 medal will be the first of 3 puzzle pieces – the medals from the runs in 2012 and 2013 will complete the puzzle. That sounds really cool to me… I’m a sucker for exactly that kind of thing. I will be terribly upset if I’m unable to complete any of the three… but for now of course I plan on doing it! After I run this years too I want to set out all the swag from the years and showcase it…yeah that sounds fun too…. so uh… look for that right after Hospital Hill 2011 on June 4th!

Also shortly after Hospital Hill I plan on making good on a couple more promises for blog topics … Hospital Hill race reports past present and future and lack thereof.

Well even though my training has been ramping up… I was in a minor rut there for a couple of weeks. Pain in my right heel which felt like burning and cramping. Fairly annoying and almost scary. I was taking 4-5 days off at a time and it was persisting even when I’d be walking etc. Add to that I had a side cramp that lasted for about 48 hours and some sharp pains here and there. Guess I’m just getting old. Well… oldER since you’ll likely balk if I dare call myself at 32 old. Well I continued to take it easy and my heel problem seems to have subsided for the moment… but it still feels touchy like it could flare up at any second.

I took a “long run” on Sunday – a 5 miler. Hah. Yeah sadly that’s my long run but I do have two solid excuses: it was quite cold and I was still nursing my heel. Additionally I took a slightly different route and did some hills. Now tonight I had a particularly fun workout. I hit the track for a change of pace (haha, get it?) and did some intervals. Those are always fun… and crunching the numbers now hours later it would appear that was one of my best track workouts ever! Here were tonight’s splits:

Split Time Distance Avg Pace Best Pace Calories
1 0:04:26 0.5 8:54 7:41 55
2 0:01:56 0.25 7:46 7:29 28

4 0:01:38 0.25 6:32 6:22 28

6 0:01:24 0.25 5:37 5:11 27
7 0:03:09 0.25 12:37 5:16 24
8 0:02:00 0.25 8:02 7:19 28
9 0:01:56 0.25 7:46 7:20 28
10 0:01:27 0.25 5:50 4:36 26
11 0:02:33 0.25 10:17 4:55 27
12 0:01:52 0.25 7:22 6:43 28
13 0:01:55 0.25 7:44 7:02 28
14 0:04:43 0.5 9:28 3:26 52
15 0:07:01 0.7 9:59 6:43 77
Summary 0:40:18 4.7 8:34 3:26 510

Nice data huh?

Well for fun I ran a 100m in 15 seconds, ran all the hurdles on the track, and just generally enjoyed myself. I feel very fortunate having a track .42 miles from my front door.

Chicago Marathon Registration Closed

In a record 31 days, the 45,000 spots available have all been taken and registration for the 2011 Chicago Marathon is closed. When I registered on February 7th I had a feeling it would close early this year… glad I registered early. That’s an awfully long lead time from registration to run. So much can happen during that time. Heck I’m planning on two major vacations and two major runs beforehand. Oh well… I guess if 45,000 people REALLY want to do it – it should pretty much be a guaranteed kick ass time huh? Talk about scheduling a high. Yes, um, 9 months from now I want to feel absolutely fantastic. Well it works I guess; I do.

In other news… YOU MUST RUN THIS 5K! That’s right … the Blue Devil Fun Run/Walk Kids Trot. It’s Saturday May 7th, 2011 at 8am. They have early packet pick up, race day packet pickup, FREE Chris Cakes pancakes, T-Shirt, etc, etc!!

Why must you run this? Why am I plugging this? It’s a nice event, and one you can likely place in. HECK, they only had 100 people there last year! You realize with all the age groups available what place that makes you eligible for? You could practically walk away with the gold, silver, and bronze!

In all seriousness though, I’m advertising in what little way I can for a friend. So if just ONE person that reads this just ONE person (hint: that’s you) goes down there and runs, walks, or jogs across the finish line (with a race bib – save the banditing for Boston) that’s a win. For you, the 1st place finisher of course, and also for The Allied Health Student Emergency Fund. It’s so simple… everyone wins. All you have to do is show up!

So my plea has become akin to the radio phon-a-thon advert. We’ve talked to everyone else. We haven’t heard from you. Run it. You will place!!! (Tell yourself that and it will happen… tell yourself that and it will happen!)

Ok well that’s it. Have I covered any other promises? Yep… two more!

– I’m running Chicago 2011
– A beloved 5k in my hometown is unceremoniously canceled
– I explore the rich history of many a 5k in my hometown to go the way of the caribbean monk seal
– I discuss things whilst drunk
– I set various goals and either accomplish them or think of elaborate schemes to escape them
– I regret discussing things whilst I was drunk
– I discuss Race Reports of Hospital Hill past…
– I contemplate Race Reports of Hospital Hill Future
– AND FINALLY — I SET A GOAL OF HOSPITAL HILL PRESENT: 1:45:59
