Yeah that’s right. Today I ran 65 minutes on the treadmill. I’m so proud of myself. Invariably about 6 minutes after running on the rodent wheel I want to quit. I want to quit again about 16 minutes in… then at 24 then at 54. Somehow I took my own old advice and ran 65 minutes. What is my own old advice? You should know by now, but basically its the idea that if goal = run > 1hour on treadmill then goal_achieved = running > 1hr on treadmill. It’s a simple formula, made simpler by distractions such as finishing Season 3 of Dexter and slowing to walk every now and then.
Well that was what I started writing a couple days ago. Just wanted you to know I’ve been busy training on the rat wheel even though my statistics page isn’t showing new runs… it just shows outdoor runs and basically anything I don’t have to do manually. As my training for Hospital Hill, Psycho Psummer and Chicago officially get underway I may start officially tracking treadmill runs too just to get a complete record of the how the training is going. Of course, as the training gets underway the weather should be improving to the point where I’m not so reliant on the treadmill anyway.
All that being said, let’s cross something off the blog to-do list.
This year, in Lansing, what would have been the 8th annual “On The Run” 5k will *not* take place. It’s been officially canceled.
See for yourself: On The Run 5k Race
In it’s brief history this event was originally the Lansing Daze 5k from its inaugural race in 2004 through 2006. It was then moved from the Lansing Daze fest to exist as its own event and was run from 2007-2010 as the Lansing “On The Run” 5k. It had a light prison theme and was run on an out and back course starting at the Lansing Historical Museum and through the Lansing Correctional Facility grounds.
This year I was informed that the rigors of organizing the race were to large a burden to bear, and the race director could find no one else willing to pick up the slack. I’m afraid that’s all the detail I know. What I do know is that it will be missed. Here is a short list of other 5ks run in Lansing in the past decade that are now defunct:
2007-08 Lansing Fun Run – Run for 2 years (An extremely small race)
2004-06 / 2007-2010 Lansing Daze 5k / On the Run 5k – Run for 7 years total
1999-2005 Awesome Autumn 5k – 7 years (was put on by the local Lions Club)
All that’s left is:
Steeplechase 5k 2004-? (2011) 8 years now! After this year it will be the longest running 5k in Lansing! (that I know of…)
(even though the website doesn’t reflect it yet, I’ve confirmed that it is set to be run September 17th, 2011 @ 8am)
Well that’s TWO topics to cross of the list:
- I’m running Chicago 2011
- A beloved 5k in my hometown is unceremoniously canceled
- I explore the rich history of many a 5k in my hometown to go the way of the caribbean monk seal
- I discuss things whilst drunk
- I set various goals and either accomplish them or think of elaborate schemes to escape them
- I regret discussing things whilst I was drunk
- I discuss Race Reports of Hospital Hill past…
- I contemplate Race Reports of Hospital Hill Future
- AND FINALLY — I SET A GOAL OF HOSPITAL HILL PRESENT: 1:45:59
